Alsace grand cru

Alsace grand cru is an appellation that distinguishes fifty one delimited named sites of the Alsace vineyard, on the foothills of the Vosges. It reserves the label mainly for four noble grapes: riesling, gewurztraminer, pinot gris and muscat. Each grand cru corresponds to a terroir with specific soils, from granite to limestone by way of sandstone and marl. Yields there are stricter than for the generic Alsace appellation.
