Avalanche transceiver

An avalanche victim detector, a device worn by off-piste skiers, formerly known by the French acronym ARVA. In transmit mode it broadcasts a radio signal allowing a buried person to be located; in search mode it guides rescuers toward the signal of a buried companion. Paired with a shovel and probe, the transceiver forms essential safety equipment. Mountain palaces supply it to guests on supervised off-piste outings.
