B Corp Certification

B Corp Certification is a company-level certification created by B Lab in 2006 (a nonprofit based in Pennsylvania), assessing a company's overall social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Unlike building certifications, B Corp looks at governance, workers, community, environment, and customers all together. Minimum required score is 80 out of 200. Renewed every three years. For travelers, B Corp is still rare in hospitality but growing: Inkaterra (Peru), 1 Hotels (Barry Sternlicht's SH Hotels & Resorts group), The Lake House on Canandaigua, Bellevue Syrene. What sets it apart from environmental certifications like GSTC or EarthCheck: B Corp includes social and governance dimensions, not just ecology.
