Badgir

A Persian wind tower, usually four-sided and capable of considerable height, designed to catch the wind and cool the spaces below. Common across the Persian Gulf region and areas prone to sandstorms, the badgir can be closed off in winter. Its slender silhouette characterises Iranian vernacular architecture and reappears in certain desert resorts, where it doubles as a passive cooling device and a recognisable design signature.
