Bali Ubud area

Ubud is the cultural heart of Bali, located inland in Gianyar regency, about 25 km northeast of Denpasar, with no direct sea access. It became famous internationally through the Pita Maha art movement of the 1930s (Walter Spies, Rudolf Bonnet) and again after Eat Pray Love (2006). The setting combines working rice terraces (in the subak irrigation system), Hindu temples like Tirta Empul and Goa Gajah, plus art galleries and craft workshops. For travelers, Ubud has the densest cluster of high-end jungle resorts in Bali: Mandapa Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Four Seasons Sayan, Como Shambhala Estate, Capella Ubud (Bill Bensley's tented camp), Bisma Eight.
