Bunker

A sand-filled hollow built into a golf course to increase its difficulty, positioned near greens or along fairways. A player whose ball settles in one must play a specific shot without grounding the club in the sand before impact. The deep pot bunkers of Scottish links are particularly feared. On resort courses, the shaping of bunkers and the upkeep of their sand contribute to both the aesthetics and the strategic challenge of the layout.
