Carat

Unit of weight for gemstones, equal to 200 milligrams, or one fifth of a gram. The carat is divided into one hundred points. It measures mass rather than visual size, so two diamonds of equal weight may appear different depending on how they are cut. In palace jewellery windows, carat weight remains one of the most immediately legible figures for prospective buyers.
