Cold War bunker tours

Cold War bunker tours refer to the guided visits of the underground complex built beneath the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, the secret shelter for the United States Congress between 1961 and 1992 under the code name Project Greek Island (Greenbrier Project Greek Island, Washington Post 1992). The 10,800 square metre bunker integrated dormitories, session halls, broadcast studios and an incinerator, hidden beneath the hotel's West Wing extension and managed by a cover company named Forsythe Associates. The secret held for 31 years until journalist Ted Gup's exposure. A lesser-known feature : since 1995 the hotel runs daily paid tours of the bunker, now a listed tourist attraction, with a 90-minute route open by reservation.
