Culet

Point or tiny facet at the very bottom of the pavilion, parallel to the table. In many modern cuts the culet reduces to a simple point, whereas older cuts show a small visible facet. A culet left too open can create a dark spot seen through the table. Its presence raises the facet count of a round brilliant from fifty-seven to fifty-eight.
