Disc (surface of the wine)

The disc refers to the upper surface of the wine observed in a tilted glass or seen from above, revealing much during visual examination. Its brightness, thickness and clarity inform on the wine's soundness and substance: a thick, luminous disc suggests material and depth, while a dull or cloudy one warns of a possible fault. Reading the rim, or edge, completes the analysis by indicating the age and degree of evolution.
