Golf handicap
A numerical value reflecting a golfer's standard, calculated from their best recent scorecards. The handicap allows players of differing ability to compete fairly by adjusting their gross scores. The lower it is, the better the player. A scratch golfer carries a handicap of zero. Resorts and country clubs sometimes require a handicap certificate before granting access to their courses, ensuring that visiting players meet the expected standard.
