Guyot pruning

Guyot pruning is a long cane training system developed in the nineteenth century by the physician and agronomist Jules Guyot. Guyot simple retains a single fruiting cane plus a renewal spur, whereas Guyot double keeps two canes on either side of the trunk. Widely used in Burgundy and Bordeaux, this method lets the grower regulate the number of retained buds and therefore the vine's yield.
