Hooking
A defensive polo move in which a player blocks an opponent's mallet with their own as the opponent prepares to strike the ball. Hooking is tightly regulated: it may only be attempted below the level of the horse's shoulder and on the side where the ball lies. Performed incorrectly, it incurs a foul. Umpires at polo club tournaments enforce the safety boundaries that govern this manoeuvre during competitive play.
