Hush trip

Working remotely from a holiday spot without telling your employer where you actually are. The term surfaced on TikTok in 2023 and was picked up by the Wall Street Journal soon after. Resume Builder found that 28 percent of US remote workers admitted doing it at least once in 2024. Hotels catering to hush trippers offer neutral video-call backgrounds (so the colleagues do not see the pool), strong noise suppression on the Wi-Fi conference line, and a check-in that does not feature signage in the lobby. The practice is legally grey: it can breach tax residency rules and corporate IT policies, which is why it stays quiet.
