IGP / PGI

['IGP', 'PGI']

IGP (Indication Geographique Protegee, PGI in English) is the European designation harmonised that certifies an agricultural or food product is linked to a geographic zone for at least one production, transformation or elaboration stage. IGP is less demanding than AOP which requires the entire cycle in the zone. French IGPs include Charolles beef, Southwest duck, Bayonne ham, Sisteron lamb, Landes sweet corn. In 2026, around 145 French IGPs are recognised, and 1,500 IGPs at the European level. IGPs regularly feature on three star menus as a guaranteed origin marker (Source: INAO, 2026).
