Leitmotif

A recurring musical motif associated with a character, object, emotion or idea, which returns and transforms over the course of a work. Developed by Richard Wagner in his music dramas, the leitmotif turns the orchestra into a character in the narrative, commenting on the action and propelling it forward. Familiarity with it enriches the listening of the Germanic operas offered within the cultural programming proposed to palace guests.
