Mai Tai

The Mai Tai refers to a tiki cocktail built on rum, orange curaçao, orgeat syrup and lime juice, served over crushed ice. Its creation is claimed by Victor Bergeron, known as Trader Vic, in 1944 in California, in rivalry with Donn Beach. Its name is said to come from the Tahitian maita'i, meaning excellent. It appears in the International Bartenders Association repertoire as an emblem of tiki culture.
