Manhattan

The Manhattan refers to a classic cocktail combining rye whiskey or bourbon, sweet red vermouth and Angostura bitters, stirred and served straight up with a cherry. Codified by the International Bartenders Association, it is thought to have emerged in New York during the late nineteenth century. Its benchmark ratio of two parts whiskey to one part vermouth makes it a cornerstone reference of American mixology.
