Prong setting

Most widespread setting technique, in which metal claws, usually three to six, are folded over the girdle to hold the stone. By limiting the surface of metal, it lets in maximum light and shows the gem to its fullest. It is the setting of choice for solitaire engagement rings displayed in palace jewellery windows, where uninterrupted light return is prized above all.
