Rijsttafel

Indonesian meal of Dutch colonial origin whose name literally means rice table. It presents many small dishes, sometimes forty, served simultaneously around rice prepared several ways: satay, sambals, egg rolls, fish, vegetables and condiments. Born in the East Indies to display colonial abundance, it remains popular in Belgium and the Netherlands and features in the festive buffets of palace hotels.
