Rooftop bar

A rooftop bar is a bar on the roof of a hotel, usually in an urban setting, with panoramic skyline views as the main attraction. The concept goes back to the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center in the 1930s, but it exploded after 2010 with the rise of lifestyle hotels. The economics are great for hotels: a rooftop bar earns more per square meter than a guest room, attracts non-staying locals, and gets the property into newspapers and Instagram. Iconic ones: CÉ La Vi atop Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, Sirocco at Lebua in Bangkok (where the Hangover Part II was filmed), Skybar at Mondrian LA, Le Perchoir in Paris, the rooftop at The Standard High Line in New York. Best time to go: about 45 minutes before sunset.
