Salt and pepper set

A salt and pepper set refers to the matched pairing of a salt cellar and a pepper vessel placed on the table for seasoning to the guest's own taste. It may take the form of shakers, mills or small open dishes served with tiny spoons. In palace silverware these pieces are frequently sterling silver or crystal mounted on silver, arranged in pairs at the centre of a cover or shared between two places depending on the layout of the table.
