Sancerre

Sancerre is a Centre-Loire appellation, on the left bank of the river in the Cher department, world renowned for its dry sauvignon whites. It also produces pinot noir reds and rosés. Its varied soils, dominated by white marl and limestone terres blanches, limestone caillottes and flint, imprint a characteristic minerality and tension on the wines. The appellation was recognised for its whites from 1936.
