A speakeasy is a hidden or disguised bar, typically accessed through an unmarked door, behind a bookshelf, via a phone booth, or through a secret password. The concept originated during American Prohibition (1920-1933) and was revived in the 2000s by bars like Milk & Honey in New York. Many luxury hotels now feature speakeasy-style cocktail bars as part of their nightlife offering. What to expect: intimate setting (often 20-60 seats), elaborate craft cocktails (typically 18-30 EUR each), professional mixologists, and a reservation policy (most speakeasies require booking). Dress code is usually smart-elegant, no sportswear or beachwear. Tip: ask the concierge for the entry instructions, as the location is often deliberately obscured. Excellent for date nights or after-dinner drinks.
