Tented suite

A tented suite is a luxury hotel "room" that's actually a permanent tent, built on a wooden or metal frame, walled with heavy canvas, fully air-conditioned, plumbed for hot showers and toilets, with a real bed inside and often a private deck and plunge pool outside. The look comes from old Mughal hunting camps and colonial-era African safari camps from the early 1900s. Bill Bensley is the world's master of tented suites: Capella Ubud in Bali, Shinta Mani Wild in Cambodia. Other famous ones: Singita Sabi Sand in South Africa, Sanctuary Olonana in Kenya, andBeyond Bateleur. Rates typically $1,500-$8,000 per night. The killer experience: hearing lions or monkeys outside at 3am, knowing the only thing between you and them is canvas.
