Yield per hectare
Yield per hectare expresses the quantity of grapes or wine produced on one hectare of land, measured in hectolitres per hectare or in kilograms. The specifications of protected appellations set upper limits intended to preserve quality, since an excessive yield dilutes berry concentration. A low yield, achieved through old vines or green harvesting, concentrates the aromas and structure of the wine and is often sought for premium bottlings.
